  • What's Happening in Your Grade in January? The KINDERGARTEN team hopes everyone had a Merry & Marvelous Christmas. We also would like to thank all the many parent volunteers that came to help each class with our holiday activities. In January we will be working very hard on learning our teen numbers, graphing and learning about the seasons with the emphasis being on winter. We will also be learning about animals of the Arctic Zone and doing our mid-year PALS assessments.

Xin nian kuai le! Or Happy New Year! FIRST GRADE will be celebrating the Chinese New Year on January 23! In January, we will also be learning about winter. Do animals hibernate, migrate, or adapt? We will also learn that people adapt. We will practice reading a thermometer, and learn about snow and snowflakes. The students will also find that it's so nice, "while slipping on the sliding ice, to sip hot chicken soup with rice." We will discuss seasons with a rhyme for every month of the year.

    SECOND GRADE No report

Happy 2012!!!!! The THIRD GRADE team is excited about the New Year! 2012 is going to be the best year yet. We are working hard in 3rd grade on our multiplication and cursive. Our resolution in 3rd grade is to do our very best in all that we do. We are excited to see what the New Year will bring.

Joke: What do snowmen eat for breakfast?
    Answer: Frosted Flakes :)

Welcome back B Track! FOURTH GRADE will be busy during the month of January. We are going to be learning to play the recorder. Students will also be diving into deeper math. Please help your child to memorize their math facts. Knowing the simple math facts will help with long division and double digit multiplication. Remember, it is winter, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. We look forward to a great month!

Here in FIFTH GRADE we have been busy doing a service learning project for Primary Children's Hospital and the University of Utah NICU. Students donated fleece material. The students cut out and tied blankets and hats. A big thank you to families who donated fleece and parents who helped us sew the hats. We were able to make over 100 blankets and over 300 hats. WAY TO GO 5th GRADERS!!!

Just a reminder, SIXTH GRADERS are tested on their computer keyboarding skills in January! While classes have practiced diligently in the computer lab since the beginning of school, most of the student's progress will be realized with the home practice. The district anticipates that students will be keyboarding at 25 words per minute or better. The scores will be sent to the district by January 31st. Do your best and good luck!
